After a busy hectic day, I enjoy adding Lavender oil to my bath to help calm and relax me. Lavender oil is for external use only and it not only helps calms the mind but it can also help to calm muscle pain and headaches. The oil can be used as a natural insect repellent when placed on clothes, skin or in the garden.

Lavender has anti-microbial effects due to its volatile oils. The anti-microbial activity is useful topically for small cuts and abrasions. If you are using the essential oil it needs to be diluted - 2-5 drops of essential oil in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil or you can use an infusion using the flowers to make a wash.

Lavender is restorative to the nervous systems and is indicated when a person is under chronic stress or worry that depleted their nervous system. Internal use of lavender as a tea or tincture can help with insomnia, restlessness, or nervous stomach irritations. Lavender is contraindicated in pregnancy.
