Allergy season is already upon us. Are you prepared?

Allergies are here early this year, and there is thought that this year will be one of the worst allergy seasons because of how the winter was (or wasn’t in the case of California). I know all of my patients who suffer with allergies have been pulling out their favorite allergy products, be they drugs or more natural, to help. Some are getting relief while others are not. When it comes to allergies not only do we need to look at the pollen that is in the air, but also all of the other allergy inducing, and system clogging items that we are eating, or are exposed to on a daily basis.

The body can only detoxify so much before it becomes overwhelmed, and unable to process things. As the body moves further, and further from homeostasis, we then are able to see all of the ways the body is suffering. The goal of a Naturopathic Doctor is to help restore homeostasis to the system. We pick apart our patient’s lives, diet, habits, and chemistry to find the best way to lower their allergic potential. I wish I could tell my patients to avoid going outside when their allergies are horrible, but that is not possible.

What I can do for my patients is to help them reset the detoxification pathways, and help them to lower their exposure to allergy inducing items. I also talk with them about not only keeping their bedrooms as an allergy free zone, but also the rest of their home. For a lot of my patients, these small changes give them great relief. Other patients need more complex detoxification protocols. This is where specific supplementation, or potentially even nasal rises, can be used to flush the system.

We are, of course, individuals so what works for one person may, or may not, work for the next person. And so as a Naturopathic Doctor, I need to have many different options in my tool-chest to help my patients. I need to trust their bodies, and get to the root cause of their allergies so that they can get back to their bodies natural homeostasis. If you are, or a loved one is dealing with allergies please call to set up a free 15 minute consultation with me, Dr. Anita M. Larrow, ND, to learn more about how I can help you this allergy season.
